Comic Sans is a lovely font. It’s friendly, non-threatening and easy to read which is why a lot of people choose to use it over other fonts. But it is for these very characteristics that it is completely inappropriate when trying to portray certain messages.
Here are ten examples of when Comic Sans has been used to a dismal effect:
#1 When Campaigning Against Domestic Violence

Comic sans is supposed to be a fun font, one that’s used to make cartoons friendly to read. It is not supposed to ‘lighten up’ that droll domestic violence leaflet – that’s not helpful in the slightest. In fact, it makes the whole thing look very unprofessional and like it’s been thrown together by a rag-tag bunch of students.
#2 Preventing Tragedy

Comic Sans is a very difficult font to take seriously, which is why it doesn’t make an ideal font for warning signs. Although some people still think that this smooth, friendly font is a perfect way to grab people’s attention so that they can call the police and potentially save lives, something tells us that this sign never got seen by any committees!
#3 When Remembering WW2 Veterans
English isn’t the only language where this grave decision of fonts can be made. A German remembering of the troops from World War Two was displayed using – you guessed it – Comic Sans. Let us reiterate, Comic Sans should be used in a playful, friendly way or for an audience of children; it should not be used to commemorate the brave men and women who fought and died for what they believed in.
#4 Or Deaths in General

What’s worse than hearing about the death of a loved one? Getting the receipt for the funeral delivered to your door in Comic Sans. Are they mocking you for having to fork out money to bury your relative? Are they simply trying to lighten up the rather grim process of death? We can’t tell you for sure but it definitely is not the right font for this situation.
#5 Registering Sex Offenders

We are slightly in disbelief of this poster at all. Not only is it using Comic Sans in an unbelievably inappropriate situation, it also has a rainbow boarder to make it more attractive to the eye. Looking at this you’d think it was an invitation to a village fair or children’s birthday party, not a call for sex offenders to register with their closest parole office.
